I just realized how many people have too much money and SO few brains.
I know I know...why didn't I figure this out earlier?Well, to tell you the truth, I was well aware of this whole fact. But a tiny incident today on my nearby public beach reminded me how many people need to be hauled of and smacked severely by a nun.
We get transients alot, especially since we live in an area where there are railroads and trains that pass by every half-an-hour to an hour. They bum around (NO pun intended) on the beach and sometimes they're brave enough to stop by our houses and ask for water or a snack or hell, even directions. I've always given them food or water, same with my folks, and they've never bothered us. Ever.
Today was nice, and me and my parents went on a walk to the public beach. We saw a guy there with a fire and a little hut made out of driftwood. We waved to him, and he waved back. All was well.
On the way back, a middle-aged couple walked past us and then we ended up passing them. They were cool, and started chatting with the guy with the fire. Then, as we headed toward the road, another guy climbed down from the railroad tracks looking determined and angry. We ignored him.Then we heard a shout of "HEY!" behind us. We stopped, wondering if someone was talking to us, and turned to see the Angry Guy kicking sand on the Transient Guy's fire and knocking his hut down. As you can imagine, all sorts of hell broke loose. And it wasn't even the Transient Guy who did the yelling. It was the Wife of the previously mentioned couple. She looked ready to punch the Angry Guy's lights out. I might as well have given her a hammer and said, "Wail."
Honestly, I was as exasperated as I was angry. Who gave him the right to kick a man off a PUBLIC beach? The land belongs to the City of Shoreline, and not him. Just because he owns a fancy big house that overlooks the sound shoudn't give him any pretentions about what he has authority over. I mean, Jesus, was the smoke blocking his 1.5 million dollar view? Who does he think he is?
*sigh* The Wife took a picture of him with her phone. She's apparently going to show him who can kick who where. My 'rents just shook their heads and carried on, and I with them, rather feeling sorry for the Transient Guy.
